find it on the first reach.
Give your essentials a repeatable home. Start by sorting what is already in your bag, then decide whether an extra pouch would help.

Empty the bag. Notice what you carry.
Lay everything out and sort it into three groups: used most days, needed for a specific activity and items that can stay elsewhere. Remove old receipts, duplicate cables and anything you no longer need.
Before buying an organizer, try the pockets your bag already has. The most useful system is one you can repeat without thinking about it every morning.
Give each group a place
Quick access
Choose a consistent place for the items you reach for during the day. Keep it easy to open and clear of loose objects.
Daily essentials
A small pouch can hold a related group you move between bags. Check that the filled pouch fits through each bag's opening.
Activity extras
Add work, gym or outing items only when you need them. Keep the daily kit separate so you can change the rest without starting over.
Check the system in use
Try an ordinary reach
With the bag packed as you carry it, retrieve your most-used item. If you have to lift out several things, change its location.
Check weight and closures
An organizer adds its own size and weight. Keep only what improves access, and make sure the bag still closes without force.
Reset when you put the bag down
Remove today's extras, return essentials to their usual place and note what needs replacing. Keep the routine short enough to repeat.
